General Update

Hi everyone! It's been awhile since we posted, so here's a general update on what has since happened. Mom has now completed 10 immunotherapy sessions (9 had chemo). We went to the City of Hope hospital to get a second opinion, because the chemo and immunotherapy were causing her a lot of unpleasant side effects (migraines, super itchy scalp, back pain, leg weakness, constant dry cough - to the point her ribs hurt-, tiredness, frequent urination, etc), with seemingly zero effect on the tumor. The second doctor recommended her to stay only on the immunotherapy, and we'll continue to proceed depending on how the next CT scan goes. The scan is scheduled for mid-February.

We learned that immunotherapy tends to have a delayed response, so we hope that is the case here! The second doctor recommended against herbal medicine, as it may interfere with the drugs. Although my mom feels that the herbal medicine has helped her significantly, she will stop taking it for now to see if hopefully it will help.

Thanks everyone who came to visit and has showed support over the past several months! We really appreciate it and it means a lot to us.

From Tiffany's Perspective August 14, 2018 Today was the day that mom was cremated. Mom didn't have any specific wishes for when she passed away. She just wanted something small.  So for her cremation,  we wore something bright and colorful so we could send off mom in style, to celebrate and cheer her on her journey. My sister, my dad, and I all picked something that also has something memorable that related to mom. Mom has cancer

I decided to keep a journal to update everyone with how my mom is doing. This is everything up to date: 5/10/17- ER visit Mom was having major chest pain and trouble breathing-- we took her to to ther ER at St. Joseph's. Turns out she had a Pericardial Effusion-- this is a  huge build of of fluid in the sac around her heart. We also discovered a nodule in her lungs and she was admitted into the hospital overnight 5/11/17- 3 surgeries - fluid drained from around her heart - surgery for a pericardial window to prevent fluid from building up again - lung mass was biopsied 5/13/17- its Cancer The lung mass turned out to be cancer :( more testing was done to find out severity and if it spread 5/14/17- Stage 4 lung cancer Bad news, Mom has stage 4 lung cancer.  The pathology results showed she has cancer in the fluid they drained from her heart.  We're still waiting on the genealogy report to see what type she has. 5/15/17- discharged from the hospital

Upcoming Second Chemo

June 25, 2017 On Tuesday will be mom's second chemo treatment. Please keep her in your thoughts and pray for her. We have been told that as chemo treatments go on, each one has greater side effects than the last. Over the past few days, she has had an increase in cough accompanied by heart palpitations, most likely due to fluid retention in her lungs. Let's hope that the chemo will work!
